On Thursday Nov. 15 wrestlers were required to take the annual hydration assessment. The main goal of hydration testing is to ensure student athletes are healthy and it is also mandated by KHSAA for this reason.

“It doesn’t allow you to drop weight so you can’t cut weight in an unhealthy fashion,” Anders Vance, sophomore, said.

Students must pass this assessment in order to wrestle.

“In order to prepare for hydration testing, you drink lots of water throughout the day,” Brenton Wrigley, junior, said.

It is important for students to do this so that they may pass the hydration testing.

From an administrative strandpoint, the biggest reason for hydration testing is the athletes. It gives coaches an effective method of determining if their athletes are healthy or not.

“Basically… It reveals if they are cutting weight too quickly and it also shows if they are cutting too much,” Darin Gagnebin, athletic director, said.

Overall, hydration testing is important for maintaining athletes’ health. This year 38 students passed and 5 failed. Those students will be able to retake the test on Monday.
